TRCC Webinar: Understanding Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis: Voices from Clinical to Community
Tuesday, August 13, 2024 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
Join us on August 13 at 1pm ET for a webinar featuring speakers from Atlanta Regional Collaborative for Health Improvement (ARCHI), an interdisciplinary coalition working to transform the region’s health through a collaborative approach that seeks to invert the burden for those most marginalized from good health by placing them at the center of care and coordinated supports. They will share how ARCHI works to raise up the lived experience of community advisors to better understand and overcome barriers to good health, with gun violence as a repeated theme. Gun violence tears apart families and, of course, impacts both physical health and mental health, especially among those who are already experiencing marginalization and other systemic barriers. In fact, the US Surgeon General issued an Advisory on the Public Health Crisis of Firearm Violence on June 24, 2024, stating that “Firearm violence is an urgent public health crisis that has led to loss of life, unimaginable pain, and profound grief for far too many Americans.” During this webinar, you will hear from community members, a violence interrupter, and a clinician about the impact of gun violence and innovative responses that are making a difference to address this crisis across Atlanta.
