Description
Session Description
As changemakers, many of us struggle with the most complex issues of our time. Systems of oppression are not only entrenched but interconnected. And even as we work to solve problems on the daily, a paralyzing thought can creep in: are we even solving the right problem? This workshop will give you concrete tools for starting or restarting your projects in a more strategic, action-oriented, and equitable way. You will learn and practice methods for mapping root causes, writing positive goals, and centering the people most impacted in your learning, co-creation, and efforts towards institutional change.
Presentation Format
This workshop is hands-on. We will use slides at the beginning to set context. After that, participants will work individually or in small groups to name their problems, map root causes of those problems, write positive goals, and make plans for learning from the people most impacted by those goals. They will be supported in those activities by posters/worksheets at their tables.
Session Takeaways
Attendees will come away with the following learnings:
- Why the framing - how we describe the purpose - is the most important part of any project
- How to map possible root causes without getting stuck in overwhelm
- A format for writing “positive goals” which make any challenge actionable
- Why and how to engage strategically with the people most impacted by your challenge
